The Association for Public Health Action in Criminal Justice exists to promote critical analysis of the criminal justice system from a public health perspective. APHAC is an organizational base for students and faculty from diverse academic and professional backgrounds who are committed to 1) identifying, assessing, and addressing the public health impacts of the criminal justice system on people, communities, and other systems; 2) raising awareness about the intersection and common causes of disparities in health and retributive justice; and 3) promoting student participation in public events, student activities, and lectures related to criminal justice issues.

Greetings

Greetings,

Welcome to the kickoff of APHAC's official blog! The purpose of the site is to provide links to articles, reports, and events local and abroad. As bloggers, our goal is to keep track of how public health theories and tools can restore sanity and humanity in our criminal justice system. We will compile a list of essential academic literature, books, films, and other materials useful as we explore this frontier. As we blog we will be mapping the field so to speak.

We hope to stimulate discussion. The interface of health and criminal justice is rife with room for debate where answers are hardly ever clear cut. So don't be shy. Comment away, challenge our views, and submit your own!

We want to build an internet community amongst other related blogs, and will reach out to others visiting these issues on a daily basis. This site is a a work in progress, so please let David and Shae know what you want from our blog. Please sign up to have email alerts as we will use the blog to distribute information about our activities.

As we expand and stimulate more interest, we hope to invite guest-contributors who are working in the trenches.

We are excited to get this rolling along. Please stayed tuned!

DHC
